Statement on Denver’s Efforts to Protect Kids From Psychoactive Substances from One Chance to Grow Up Executive Director Henny Lasley

DENVER, COLORADO–“One Chance to Grow Up extends our sincere gratitude to the Denver Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection and the Denver Police Department for issuing a summary suspension for the Vibe Smoke Shop.

“The details of this case—including the repeated sale of tobacco and high-potency kratom (7-OH) to minors, as well as the illegal sale of alcohol, marijuana and psilocybin—are deeply concerning. By moving to shut down this illegal operation, Denver has prioritized youth safety by directly intervening to prevent further harm to minors who, news reports state, required addiction treatment due to products sold at this location.

“The City and County of Denver has upheld community standards by responding to months of community complaints and failed inspections that demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law. Denver ensured accountability by sending a clear message that businesses profiting from the illegal sale of psychoactive substances to children will not be tolerated.”

Note: A virtual hearing regarding the permanent status of the store’s license is scheduled for June 26.
