Prevalence of Substance Use Disorders by Time Since First Substance Use Among Young People in the US

The authors examined the prevalence of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) since first drug use (tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin) and prescription drug misuse in adolescents aged 12 to 17 years and young adults aged 18 to 25 years. This study indicates that earlier age at drug introduction associates with faster transition to SUD.
